The idea for thelotteryedge.com originated about a year ago when myself and three friends talking about a lawsuit filed against the Virginia lottery for selling scratch-off lottery tickets for games where the top prizes had already been won. (you can read that article on CNN if you want).

When we saw this a light bulb went off. The Virginia Lottery wasn’t intentionally trying to rip people off, they updated their website each week with exactly how many winning tickets were left for each prize on every game. The data was all there but it wasn’t being analyzed or presented in a method that players can really use.

So, we began tinkering with various mathematical formulas and buying tickets based on our results. After a couple months … we had some extra cash in our pockets and a simple way of representing a very complex equation that we always called the “Edge Value”.

Each Friday after work we would update our databases with the latest winning data straight off the state lottery websites, then we would calculate the new edge values for the top money games – usually the top 20 highest paying games (there are a ton of games – I had no idea!) This would take about an hour each week, then I would text my partners and tell them which games to buy that weekend. We’d usually meet up on Sunday afternoons to watch football and then we would divide up the winnings after taking some money out to buy tickets the next week. Some weeks we would each walk out with just $20 bucks, other times we’d be leaving with over a thousand dollars in cash… each!

We still use our own system every week and we’ve hit some big prizes! We still haven’t hit a top prize – but I it’s only a matter of time… and playing the right game!

I know what you’re probably thinking, if we’re so rich why am we bothering with this website. Well, we have won some good money, enough to buy some really nice stuff and take some nice trips but not enough to quit our regular jobs. Not yet anyway. With the lottery edge the odds are more in our favor than anyone else playing scratch off games and eventually we should hit a million dollar prize. In the meantime, we’re already updating all the game values, we might as well share it with you!
